Out of Thin Air!

Just a while back, in my first post about Girl Singers, I mentioned that Yael Naim's song "New Soul" was featured in the Television Commercial for Apple's Macbook "Air". For those of you familiar with that commercial, I present the following video, which features the some song. (but quite a bit more of it!)

Mac Fans, you may now shake your heads in disapproval at your PC-using neighbors. (But not at Me, For I use linux, and am therefore cooler Than ALL of you! MWAH-Ha-Ha-HAAAH!)

The Mixtape is Dead... Viva La Mixtape!

For those of you who liked the idea of checking out the artists in my previous post on "Girl Singers", but who didn't want to spend an hour and a half clicking each individual YouTube link to see/hear them all, I have compiled an imeem Playlist with all the ones mentioned, plus a few from the comments left by you readers. (Sorry, Brian, but your suggestion, and mine, were both too uptempo to make the cut)

Previous attempts at "embedding" imeem playlists on this page have had mixed results*. Many of the songs may appear as 30-second samples if you play the playlist from this page. If this is the case go to imeem, get a membership (it's free!), then play the playlist. Don't forget to make me your friend once you sign up! You can then send me songs you think I would like, see what I've been listening to lately, and make your own playlists, too!

One of the songs on the playlist is Ingrid Michaelson's "Breakable", which is about the fragility of human hearts and bones, and was playing in the background as I wrote about celebrating my Painiversary** I thought it was nice, so I included it here, separate from the playlist.

*The "Rain" related playlist I put up in advance of my flight to San Diego this January abridged Alanis Morrisette's "Ironic", omitting the mention of "rain on your wedding day", but including the part about the man dying in a plane crash**.

**Now That's Ironic (don'cha think?)

Devil In A Blue, no... Red, no.. Black- Striped..No.. Green Dress!

This lady changes clothes faster than you can change channels!

if the embed doesn't work, here's a link. And the Legal Department here at The Daily Blog of the Day wants me to add: "This blog is not responsible for the content of any outside links, their advertisers, or affiliate programs" There.

Quick Change Artists - The most amazing bloopers are here
As mentioned in my post on Competitive Magic, I was raised by Magicians. I have consequently seen enough tricks and illusions to make me probably one of the world's most skeptical cynics. There is an old standard of stage magic called "Metamorphosis", in which a Magician* locked away inside multiple layers of captivity, and his assistant** quickly, almost instantly, switch places. This trick frequently involves a quick-change as well, using techniques that are only moderately difficult to master, compared to the relative challenge of the rest of the escape.

But this lady blew me away! I lost count of the number of transformations she made! Even if you have some idea of how it was done, the flawless execution of it should still inspire some awe for a perfectly crafted performance. I am positive I do not want to know how much her chameleon wardrobe cost.

*Actually one of two magicians, although that's giving away part of the secret, and the posters rarely acknowledge that.

** The other magician, quite frequently even more talented than the one with his name on the poster in the big print.

Improv Everywhere: They Cause Scenes.

A Roving Band of performing artists known as "Improv Everywhere" staged this scene in Grand Central Station. It seems that they do this sort of thing all the time, and have done similar stunts in Best Buy and Home Depot stores. But you can film things more obviously in a tourist location than you can in a retail location, so this one got better cinematography. I would love to have been there when this stunt began. It is surreal.

Riddle: What's Half Grocery Store, Half Flea Market, and Half Treasure Hunt?

Answer: The 150% nifty Sharp Shopper grocery store in Cowan TN. It's one of the most unique shops I've ever seen, and I'm taking you with me through the magic of my newly accessorized, video-capable, camera phone.

But enough from me, I'll let you hear about it from... Me!
( audio's a bit quiet, make sure you have your speakers turned up.)

So with that spiffy Intro out of the way, let's head to Cowan TN, a case-study in charming little small-town. Situated right on highway 41A, Cowan was a Railway Depot back when coal mining was the Cumberland Plateau's biggest industry. Today Cowan is home to a Railroad Museum, and, of course...

After passing through downtown Cowan, but before reaching the store, I passed a place I have passed dozens, if not hundreds of times, but I thought, since I am sharing "The Local Color" with you readers, I should stop and snap a few pictures. And, what the hey, some video, too.

For the record, the plural of Emu is "emus" - remember that next time you are playing Scrabble.

A few miles further, and I was there.

The Sharp Shopper, home of "Bushels of Bargins"!
Here, again, I'll let Me do the talking.

So, what were we all waiting for? This post is already too huge to tell you, so you'll have to wait until tomorrow's installment of The Daily Blog of the Day!
